SUMMER SHOW Of THREE DAYS?

CHANGE SUGGESTED BY DR CRAWFORD ASSOCIATION DEFERS ACTION A proposal that the Southland summer show should be a three-day show and that the winter show should be “quietly dropped,” was put forward by the president, Dr A. F. Ritchie Crawford, at yesterday’s meeting of the directors of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The time was now ripe, said Dr Crawford. The Southland summer show was equal to any other in New Zealand and he thought they should put the work into an extra day for the summer show and then drop the winter show. Mr John Gilkison suggested that if the winter show were dropped and the summer show extended to three days, there would be considerable opposition from the retailers. It would be unwise, said another member, to drop the winter show. The show had paid for itself in the last two or three years and he thought it should be continued. Mr G. R. Herron said he thought that with a three-day show they could have two people’s days. This would gain much more support for the summer show. Many persons had told him that they could not see half the summer show in one day. He thought the question of dropping the winter show should be deferred for a bigger meeting tc consider. ’ ... Mr J. S. Marshall \said he thought they should hold the winter show this year, It was decided to defer consideration of a three-day show till after the Royal Show. The dates for the winter show were fixed at May 11,12 and 13.
