The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam ’ Hamilton) and Mr J. Hargest, M.P., returned to Invercargill last evening after attending a caucus of the National Party in Wellington. Mr Hamilton will attend the party’s picnic at Mr Hargest’s residence, Rakauhauka, this afternoon. Councillor W. M. Norman was appointed at a meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday to represent the council at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Counties’ Association in Wellington on March 17. Mr R. T. Parsons will leave this morning for Stewart Island where he will spend a fortnight’s holiday. Mr D. Mason, of Dunedin, arrived in Invercargill on holiday yesterday. He will go to Stewart Island todav. Mr Bert Bailey, who plays the part of “Dad” in the film “Dad and Dave Come to Town” arrived in Invercargill yesterday. Mr J. T. Wilson, a member of the mechanical staff of The Southland Times, who is to be married today, yesterday received a presentation from the staff.
Mr C. J. Kerr, chief clerk in the locomotive foreman’s office at the Invercargill railway station, leaves by the express this morning for Christchurch on transfer. He is to be chief clerk in the locomotive foreman’s office at Linwood, Christchurch. Mr Kerr received a presentation from the office staffs of the locomotive and workshops branches. Captain J. J. Cameron, a retired master in the New Zealand Shipping Company, will leave for London by the Rimutaka from Auckland today after a holiday visit to the Dominion. Captain Cameron, whose last command was the liner Remuera, will be accompanied by his wife.
