GORE

SCHOOL CAMP Today the cadets of the Gore High School will go into camp at the Gore racecourse for a weeks military training. Because of the heavy expense it is now several years since a camp was held by this unit and it is through the generosity of the parents and friends of the pupils, who have contributed camp supplies, that it has been found possible to hold a camp this year. , . The camp will be under the command of Major E. H. W. Rowntree, 0.C., assisted by Lieutenant M. Fowler, second in command, commanding No. 9 platoon, and Lieutenants A. S. Aitkins, A. Macartney and D. Patterson commanding Nos. 10, 11 and 12 platoons. The organization of the camp was well under way yesterday and an interesting and instructive programme of work has been arranged. The instructional staff consists of Major T. Fyfe, E.D., Staff-Sergeant Gibb, N.Z.P.S., and the school officers. The _ Q-M. department is under the direction of Staff Sergeant-Major Sutton (W.0.1.), N.Z.P.S., while it is expected that Lieutenant A. R. Cockerell, D. 5.0., N.Z.S.C., will be in attendance a portion of the time in his capacity as area officer. Tents will be erected at 10 o clock this morning and the remainder of the day will be spent in the issue of stores and instruction in camp routine. On Sunday morning at 9.45 o’clock a church parade will be held in the grounds under the Rev. F. B. Barton. Any member of the public may attend this service. In the afternoon the camp will be open to the public, and the cadets will act as guides to any visitors. The Gore Municipal Band will also be in attendance on this occasion and will present a programme of music. GORE HIGH SCHOOL
