Values for good quality wethers, which were forwards in comparatively small numbers, showed a fall of about 2/- a head at the weekly stock sale at Lomeville yesterday. The yarding of fat sheep was much bigger than last week and consisted principally of ewes. There was a good offering of lambs and export buyers competed at values which were slightly in excess of schedule (rates. The quality of the fat cattle entered showed an improvement on last week, but prices for all classes, compared with the previous sale, were cheaper by about 15/- a head. FAT CATTLE There was a fair yarding of fat cattle, the quality of which was considerably better than last week. Compared with the previous sale, values for all classes were about 15/- a head cheaper. Prime quality bullocks sold at £l2 to £l3, good quality from £ll to £ll 10/-, medium quality from £lO to £lO 10/and unfinished from £8 to £8 15/-. Prime quality heifers made up to £lO 12/6, good quality mediumweights from £8 15/- to £9 10/- and lighterweights from £7 10/- to £B. There was little change in. prices and the sale did not show much animation. Two and three-year-old steers sold at from £6 5/- to £7 5/-, with smaller sorts down to £5. A pen of speyed heifers realized £4 13/-, while best empty cows brought up to £4 5/-, average cows selling at from £2 15/- to £3 15/-, with cull sorts down to £l.

There was a very small offering of dairy cows and best sorts made up to £6, with others from £3 10/- to £4 10/-.

FAT SHEEP AND LAMBS '

Fat sheep were present in big numbers, and the yarding consisted mainly of ewes. Some really good duality wethers were included in the entry, and values for these were lower by about 2/- a head. Butchers’ ewes were also cheaper. Prime quality wethers sold at up to 23/6, good quality from 21/6 to 22/6, medium quality 20/- to 21/- and unfinished down to 16/-. Good quality butchers’ ewes realized 13/6 to 14/6, medium quality from 11/6 to 12/6 and freezing ewes from 10/9 downwards, according to weight and quality. There was a fair yarding of lambs, but in the majority of pens there was a good proportion of unfinished sorts. Export buyers were fully represented and competed at values slightly in excels of schedule rates. Prime heavy butchers’ lambs made 26/- to 27/6, prime quality heavy freezing weights from 24/6 to 25/6, good quality sorts 22/6 to 23/6, medium quality from 20/- to 21/- and unfinished sorts down to 17/6.
