“INDUSTRIAL” SURGERY
DEVELOPMENT IN DOMINION ADVISED (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 6. There is room in New Zealand for the development of “industrial” surgery in the opinion of Dr David J. Jones, head physician for the city of Chicago, who is returning to the United States by the Mariposa. “You must have surgeons who understand and specialize in the treatment of broken backs, fractured skulls, and many other types of accident injuries suffered by municipal, State and industrial employees,” he said. “Let them concentrate on this kind of work. Experience in other countries shows that thousands of pounds can be saved when industrial firms, municipal bodies and governments adopt a surgical service for their employees. The idea is to have a number of specialists engaged almost wholly on this work. Such a system protects the employer against exaggerated and dishonest claims.”
