Praise For City and Province
High praise for Invercargill and for the province of Southland was given by Mr A. E. Hargreaves, the newly - appointed distinct traffic manager of railways at Invercargill, in replying to a welcome extended to him at his first meeting of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce yesterday. “It is 32 years since I left Invercargill,” he said, 1 and in no part of New Zealand have I seen a city which has made such progress as Invercargill. The province, too, seems very prosperous. I have just returned from a trip through the Eastern and Western Districts and was very impressed by what I saw. I take off my hat to the farmers of Southland. And there is no doubt that the farms reproduce the ' good work put into them.” A Week Of Sunshine
During the last seven days Invercargill has had a more or less uninterrupted flood of sunshine. After last Friday the weather gradually became settled and each day brought an improvement in the period of sunshine and the warmth of the temperature. Yesterday a good week ended with an ideal summer’s day, the maximum period of sunshine being enjoyed in calm conditions.
