HORSES UNABLE TO GO TO WELLINGTON ACCOMMODATION FULL ON STEAMER EXPRESS (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 1. The fields for the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow will be affected because some Canterbury trainers have been unable to obtain accommodation for their horses on the steamer express. A rush of people returning from their holidays with motor-cars has caused an unusual demand on the space during the past few days and the Union Steam Ship Company has been unable to take all the horses I engaged at the meeting. i Trotting officials are concerned over the position and have endeavoured to overcome the difficulty. It is understood that certain horses were not accepted for the first day because of no space on any of the ships being available till Friday. One at least, Bill B, had his engagement continued hoping that transit would be arranged. Bill B will not race tomorrow, but will go north on Friday to fulfil his engagement on Saturday. WAIRARAPA TROTTING CLUB DECISION TO AMALGAMATE WITH WELLINGTON (United Press Association) CARTERTON, February 1. A decision to accept an offer of amalgamation with * the Wellington Trotting Club was made by a special meeting of the Wairarapa Trotting Club. The Wairarapa Club abandoned its Christmas meeting because of poor acceptances and bad weather and a meeting was held to decide its future. The president, Mr J. F. Thompson, said the club was in a position to meet all its financial obligations, with the exception of reimbursement for owners bringing their horses to the abandoned meeting. The Wellington Trotting Club had offered to amalgamate with Wairarapa and take its two days and pay all Wairarapa’s liabilities.

Mr Thompson, in his remarks, expressed the opinion that Government taxation was ruining small country clubs and mentioned the meeting before last, when the club made a profit of £3OO but taxation amounting to £6OO had turned this profit into a loss. WORK AT RICCARTON TRACKS PLADIE’S USEFUL MILE (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 1. There were plenty of horses on the tracks at Riccarton this morning, but most of them did only useful work in preparation for the final gallops prior to the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday. Pladie had Courtyard for a mate over the last six furlongs of a mile gallop on the plough. He took 54sec for the first half and was going comfortably to complete the journey in Imin 47sec. Glenacre occupied lmin 19sec for six furlongs. Supreme Court went once round

over the hurdles at a sound pace. He was uncertain at the second, but jumped the other three very well. Top Rank struck himself in a school over the hurdles yesterday and may require a short spell. The North Island two-year-old Globe Trotter is expected to run in the Middle Park Plate and G. R. Tattersall |will ride him! , Gold Salute, from South Canterbury, will be another visiting candidate in the same race, with L, J. Ellis as his pilot. I
