CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP The annual street day was held in Gore in aid of the children’s health camps when members of the 7th Southland Company of the Boys’ Brigade conducted a copper trail in the vicinity of the Post Office and members of the Gore Committee of the Health Camp Campaign held a sale of health stamps nearby. It is understood that £37 17/10J was raised and this with other funds will assist greatly the Gore children who will be attending this year’s health C The sale of stamps realized £27 12/2, and the copper trail produced £lO 5/Bz, made up of 151 halfpennies, 1460 pennies, 59 threepenny pieces, 49 sixpences, 10 shillings, three two-shilling pieces, one halfcrown and one £1 note. The total amount raised this year is £7l 12/-, compared with £3B 18/- collected during the appeal season last year. WOMEN’S REST ROOM A section near the Gore railway station is owned by the Gore branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and it is proposed to erect a women’s rest room on this site. Witn this, aim in view, various drives are being made to raise funds and the first of these efforts was made at Gore when a street stall was conducted in the business area of the town. Mesdames J. Johnston, D. MacDonald, D. Dickie and W. Faithful were in charge of the stall and at the end of the day the sum of £5 10/- had been raised. A competition foT a Christmas dinner was also held and the winner was Mrs Copland, of Waimumu. BOWLS The Hokonui Bowling Club held a pairs competition on its green on Saturday afternoon. A big number of the club members took part in the games, which were arranged in two sections. B. Graham and R. Leslie won the A section. In the B section there were four ties for the honours, the successful pairs'being A. Graeve and P. G. Ross, A. C. Steel and Fibbes, Brown and Clearwater and Cuttriss and Hamilton. The draw for the play-off in the B section is: Ross and Graeve v. Steel and Fibbes, and Brown and Clearwater v. Cuttriss and Hamilton. GOLF About 20 members of the Gore Golf Club took part in an 18-hole medal match on the Croydon links on Saturday for the president’s trophy. The conditions were ideal for golf and some good cards were returned The trophy was won by G. D. Caldwell, who returned a card of 81-11-70.
