FIERCE FIGHT IN STREET

SEQUEL TO QUARREL AT WELLINGTON HOTEL (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 15. A rapidly swelling crowd of between 500 and 600 people watched a fierce fight between a number of men in Grey street, Wellington, about 2 o’clock this afternoon. Police were quickly on the scene and arrested six men, who will appear in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, tomorrow morning. It is understood the trouble started in the bar of a hotel when three men were joined by four others who had no money. One of the four ordered a drink and said one of his friends would pay for it. A quarrel ensued and the men were ordered from the bar. The quarrel was continued in the street, and the men began to fight among themselves. A police constable tried to put a stop to the fight. He held one man down, but was unable to deal with the others, who immediately tried to free their companion. They were unsuccessful. Five constables and five detectives arrived soon afterwards, and although some trouble was experienced, all the men were bundled into cars and taken to the central police station.
