LOSING FIGHT ON EVERY SEA
DECLINE IN BRITAIN’S SHIPPING increasingFpressure of FOREIGN SUBSIDIES LONDON, December 15. * Startling facts about the shipping position are disclosed in a report to be submitted to the Government shortly by the Ship Owners’ Committee; says The Daily Telegraph. The report is expected to show that British shipping on every sea is fighting a losing battle against subsidizbed foreign competition, the pressure of which is greater than ever. It is understood the committee proposes the financing of new construction on a large scale from public and private funds and the laying up of the older ships, which will not be scrapped, but held in reserve for any emergency. The Daily Telegraph comments that Britai. i will soon be incapable of holding out long in a major war if the decline in shipping is allowed to continue.
