SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL CONCERT

A big and appreciative audience, representative of the surrounding districts, gathered in the Pahia Hall when the pupils of the Wakapatu school produced a variety concert in aid of the school funds. The performances were of a very high

standard throughout and reflected credit on the school master, Mr B. Whelan, who devoted much of his time to training the pupils. A boxing bout by the primer boys was one of the highlights of the evening. Mr B. Whelan and Mr I, Belsham were the accompanists. After the concert a dance was held, music being supplied by Mrs Beaton and Mr McKay, extras being played by IMr L. Carroll. Mr S. Austin was master of ceremonies. The concert items were as follows:—

Pickering; drill to music, senior girls; play, “The Tar Baby,” junior boys; recitation, Annie Kini; Poi song, “Come Oh Maidens,” senior girls; play, “Bishop’s Candlesticks”; Maori song, senior girls; song, “On a Little Bamboo Bridge,” Mr P. Bates; song “Mother Machree,” Mrs R. W. Pickering; song, Mr I. Belsham.
