The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) left Bluff by the Tamatea on Saturday morning for Stewart Island, where he spent the week-end studying acclimatization and deer problems. He will return to Bluff by the vessel Orewa today and this evening in Invercargill will address a meeting of combined sports bodies on the physical fitness campaign.

Mr F. A. Webb returned from a visit to Australia by the Maunganui yesterday. Mr W. T. Hazlett returned by the Maunganui yesterday from a visit to Australia.

Mr A. V. Poole arrived from Melbourne by the Maunganui yesterday after a visit to Australia. Mr A. F. Gilkison returned from a visit to Melbourne by the Maunganui yesterday. Mr P. Chiglione, of Torino, Italy, arrived at Bluff by the Maunganui yesterday from Melbourne on a visit to New Zealand. Mr Felix Swinstead, the noted English composer-pianist, who is at present visiting Invercargill as examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, will leave by the express tomorrow morning on his return to London.

Mr V. T. Bailey, who has been in charge of the Otautau agency of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, has been transferred to Winton to succeed Mr William Watson, who has been the company’s agent there for about 14 years. The vacancy caused by the transfer will be filled by Mr A. H. Oughton, of the company’s Invercargill staff, who for some time previously represented the company both at Tuatapere and at Otautau.

The promotion of Flying-Officer J. M. Buckeridge, Wellington, to the rank of flight-lieutenant has been gazetted. He was among nine officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force who were posted to the retired list by Gazette notice on November 3, with permission to retain their rank and wear the prescribed uniform. FlightLieutenant Buckeridge continues his duties as a member of the staff of the Controller of Civil Aviation, with whom he has been associated in an official capacity since 1936. Mr H. B. Burdekin, who is taking up residence at Levin, has resigned from his position as a representative of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association on the Dominion headquarters of the Soldiers’ Re-establishment League, Wellington.—Press Association.
