INVERCARGILL CLUB’S SCORES CUNNINGHAM MEMORIAL CUP The first competition for the Walter Cunningham Memorial Cup was fired at Otatara on Saturday afternoon by the Invercargill Defence Rifle Club. A fresh westerly wind blew during the afternoon but it remained fairly steady and the scoring was up to a good standard. The ranges were 300, 500 and 600 yards, 10 shots at each. At 300 yards J. Archer shot splendidly for 554555555 5—49. A. Pomeroy, A. A. Ford and E. Grieber also did well with 48 each. At 500 yards A. R. Wills with 5 5 4 5 5 5 5 5 5 5—49 counted out W. Milley 555545555 5—49 and J. Archer 555555455 5—49 for top place. A. Ford, W. Cook, A. Pomeroy and N. McWilliams made 48 each. At 600 yards F. Mayhew, a first-year shot, did well to fill top place with 554545445 5—46 after counting out N. McWilliams 553455554 5—46, A. Ford 5544 5 5454 5—46 and J. Reeves 555554354 5—46. The best aggregates were:—A. A. Ford 142, J. Archer 141, A. R. Wills, W. Milley and A. Pomeroy 140 each. The

CITY GUARDS CLUB

The City Guards Defence Rifle Club fired the first stage of the Whitcomb and Caldwell Cup competition at Otatara on Saturday afternoon, 10 shots being fired at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Good conditions prevailed, the .'airly strong wind causing little trouble. At 300 yards the youngest member of the club, J. W. Doake, headed the list with 555555544 5—48 out of the possible 50. D. Wishart, W. McChesney, J. B. Doake and J. Tansley followed with 47 each. J. Tansley with 5 5 5 5 5 4 5 5 5 5—49 was top at 500 yards, W. McChesney 48 and L. McChesney 46 being the next best. The highest aggregate for the day was scored by Tansley with 47, 49, 47—143, a good score over these ranges, McChesney filled second place with 47, 48, 46—141.
