ALISON CUP TO VALAMITO

Kenneth Robert Wins Maiden Race DECREASE IN BETTING AT ELLERSLIE -(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 26. Although rain fell during the morning, softening the track slightly, the afternoon remained fine for the first day of the Auckland Racing Club’s midspring meeting held at Ellerslie today. There was an attendance of 11,000. The totalizator handled £37,744 compared with £43,957 last year, a decrease of £6213. ARMSTRONG DEFEATS GARCIA (Received November 27, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 26. Henry Armstrong (9.8) was given the decision over C. Garcia (10.61) in a bout for the welterweight title. A crowd of 13,000, which is the largest ever to witness an indoor welterweight title fight, saw the champion, Armstrong, win in a disappointingly easy fashion. Garcia won only three of the 15 rounds, according to the representative of the United Press, and one of those as a result of a foul. Armstrong won 10, and two were even. Armstrong continually charged in, hammering the Filipino’s head and body with short, jolting hooks. Only twice did Garcia land his muchpublicized uppercut, staggering Armstrong in the sixth and twelfth rounds.
