HOSPITAL RATING IN SOUTHLAND

FARMERS EXPRESS ALARM Alarm at the prospect of a big increase in hospital rating following the introduction of the social security scheme was expressed by the Southland provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. Hospital rates had increased substantially in the last year and his branch desired that the prospects for the future should be made clear as early as possible, said Mr J. A. Beck in moving the adoption of the following remit from the Nightcaps branch:—“That the attention of the Southland executive be drawn to the excessive increases in hospital and charitable aid rating in the Wallace county.” Mr W. B. Hopcroft said the Southland and Wallace County Councils had already taken up the matter with the Southland Hospital Board in an endeavour to have the position clarified. “That this executive draw the attention of the Government to the alarming increase in hospital rating and emphatically protest against any further increase,” read a resolution which was adopted.
