AUSTRALIAN SOPRANO GIVEN OVATION
NEW YORK AUDIENCE CASTS ASIDE CONVENTION (Received November 25, 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 24. Miss Marjorie Lawrence, singing Brunhilde in “Die Walkyrie,” was given an ovation by a capacity audience at the Metropolitan Opera House which cast aside convention and held up the performance after her first exit The applause made it impossible for Wotan to proceed, and the Australian soprano responded to numerous curtain calls. The New. York Times says. “Miss Lawrence, in addition to the fresh, dramatic character of her voice has an illusion not only for the ear but for the eye. It is a youthful, Heroic figure she presents, clad in the Valkyrie armour, and her interpretations were full of vitality and emotion.”
