STOCK IMPORTS FROM ABROAD
REQUEST MADE FOR SUBSIDY There has been some recent agitation in New Zealand to have the Government adopt the Australian plan of subsidizing the importation of fresh livestock blood from abroad, through providing freight frqe. That this is not entirely welcomed as an advantage in the Commonwealth is indicated by a discussion which took place at a recent meeting of the Cattle Council of the Graziers’ Association. When the matter was brought before the council at the end of August, it was suggested that this assistance was being employed to import inferior stock. It was decided to approach the Minister of Agriculture and stress that tht assistance should be given only for stud stock which would assist to raise the standard of stock in Australia.
