SECOND DAY AT FORBURY

Logan Derby Again

In Favour

MOREWA LIKELY TO IMPROVE

ICEVUS EXPECTED TO MAKE AMENDS

(From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN, November 25.

Heavy rain fell in Dunedin this afternoon and unless the weather improves the track at Forbury Park is likely to provide heavy going tomorrow. Rain began to fall at noon today and was still falling late in the afternoon. The fields are again of good class and an interesting day’s racing seems assured. In most cases the first day’s form will be accepted as the best guide. The single-pool system of betting will operate and the first race will start at 12.30 p.m.

Tommy Guy has been penalized 48yds for his win yesterday, but with Dalaruan out of the way he should win again and is the logical choice for the Suburban Handicap. Tommy Guy is the only one of this field who could be recommended on yesterday’s running. Bon Chance cannot be overlooked as he finished a fair third and is more reliable than a number of others. Esther was not started the first day-and she is not out of it off 60yds. Syntax and Escalado will both have to improve a great deal on the first day’s running. The favourites may be: Tommy Guy, Esther and Bon Chance.

Icevus is entitled to favouritism in the Empire Handicap as he was unluckily beaten over a mile yesterday by Roan Duke. Providing he hits his straps correctly it will take a good one to beat Icevus in this field. Bill B ran a sound race yesterday and may race even better tomorrow. Guncase was in a winning position when she broke yesterday and her chances will be enhanced on a heavy track. Token is the most likely of the others. Royal Travis does not stay on. Icevus, Guncase and Bill B may be the best supported. CHANCE FOR KING POTTS On the strength of a good third placing yesterday, King Potts promises to be the hardest to beat in the Advance Handicap. After making up a lot of ground he finished better than anything else to beat Golden Miller for third in the Progressive Handicap. Mazaire was not prominent yesterday, but he is more capable than this form would make him out to be. Glenholme would only have to begin correctly to have a chance and the smaller field will suit him. Marfax is a solid customer, while Attain has more speed than most but cannot be depended on. King Potts, Glenholme and Marfax are entitled to support. A penalty of 12yds should not stop Logan Derby from winning again and he reads best of the Forbury Handicap field. Logan Derby is to start from 60yds back, but he is a grade above the opposition and no matter how the race is run he is capable of outsprinting or outstaying this field. Off the same mark Morello may be expected to shape better than he did yesterday, but if the track is wet at all he will not start. Rocks Ahead will not be troubled by the going nor will Big Author, but he did not stay on yesterday. Renown’s Best has the ability to win in this company, but not much faith can be placed in her. Southern Smile may again be in a place if the race resolves itself into a sprint home as it did yesterday. Agile appears to have no chance, but Sea Gift is a prospect. Logan Derby, Morello and Rocks Ahead appeal most. TINKER AGAIN

Tinker, who won well yesterday, is to start off the front of the Brighton Handicap. His success was one of the most decisive of the day and the Truman Direct gelding should be capable of winning again. Jesse Owens was unluckily beaten by Privateer yesterday, as had his driver stayed on the rails instead of coming out at the finish Privateer would not have got through. Jesse Owens stays well and has improved greatly, being much more reliable at the barrier. Jovial was unlucky in the running yesterday and is likely to improve. Mazaire will be giving away time to start unless she wins earlier in the day,' while Sentiment, who was solidly supported on Thursday, will have to improve to have a chance. Tritoma will only have to get a better run to be a place prospect. Privateer is not out of it from 48yds back. The, choice is for Tinker, Jovial and Jesse Owens.

Morewa. who has been racing very consistently reads Ss well as any in the Tainui Handicap and if the track is heavy she will be even better suited. Nell Grattan must be given a chance in the light of recent placed efforts, but if the going is at all heavy she may not be as well suited as a number of others. She was only narrowly beaten by Fine Art yesterday and hung on well. Roan Duke was finishing on at the end of a mile run in 2min 8 2-ssec and he will not be troubled by the extra half-mile. In his present condition he may .be the hardest to beat as his winning performance the first day was most impressive. Frdmont has only to race solidly to take a hand in the finish, while of the others Marlene may improve most. Favourites may be; Morewa, Roan Duke and Nell Grattan.

Swift Guy appears to hold a mortgage on the Victoria Handicap, as he put up a remarkable performance to finish second to Gyrate the first day. Swift Guy has plenty of speed and he has only to strike out correctly. Esther and Parachute are newcomers. Tommy Guy’s solidness will stand to him and he may be the most likely to trouble the favourite. Most support may be carried by Swift Guy, Tommy Guy and Manna’s Son.

There are likely to be several deletions from the Recovery Handicap. Logan Derby and Morello have by far the best credentials, but both are engaged earlier. Frisco Lady and Renown’s Best are both unreliable and at this stage the favourites are entitled to be Logan Derby, Morello and Satin King. The acceptances are as follows: 12.30 p.m.
