PUKERAU CHILDREN VISIT DUNEDIN

GUESTS OF PUPILS OF SCHOOL IN CITY For some time past the senior pupils of the Pukerau school have been corresponding with pupils of the Macandrew road school, Dunedin, and from Thursday of last week until Tuesday morning 20 of the country children were billeted with their pen friends in South Dunedin. The visitors were under the care of Mr A. P. McDonald, head master of the Pukerau school, and spent an enjoyable and instructive five days in the city.

On their arrival the children were met by their friends at the Caversham station and later they attended a school concert in the South Dunedin Town Hall, The following morning they visited the Macandrew road school and saw the screening of an educational film. In the afternoon they were conducted oil a tour of the factory of the New Zealand Wax Vesta Company and later were taken to the Otago University Museum. A social evening was held in the school gymnasium at night, when the visitors gave a number of items. Saturday was devoted to a picnic at St. Kilda Beach and Sunday was free. On Monday morning the visiting children were taken to see the Roslyn Wollen Mills. This was followed by a visit to the Art Gallery, the Otago Early Settlers’ Museum, and 'Die Otago Daily Times office. The Station 4YA studio was also inspected under the guidance of “Big Brother Bill.” To the boys of the party a tour of the Hillside railway workshops was also of absorbing interest.

Arrangements are almost completed for a return visit by the Macandrew road school pupils early next month.
