FIRES NEAR FILM COLONY

SCORES OF CALIFORNIAN HOMES DESTROYED (Received November 24, 6.30 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, November 23. Brush fires which are raging, out of control, in three counties in Southern California set fire to the Arrowhead Springs hotel, which is valued at 1,000,000 dollars, destroyed scores of homes in the Santa Monica mountains, then raced towards the famous Malibu film colony. The hotel is believed to be doomed in spite of the efforts of hundreds of fire fighters. A school bus loaded with children is reported to be stranded in the danger zone. , . The homes of several prominent film stars appeared to be doomed, including the homes of Madeline Carroll and Frank Lloyd, the director. A later message says that the hotel and 700 homes in the Santa Monica area were destroyed. Scores of persons have been treated for burns, but no deaths are reported. The total damage to property is estimated at more than 3,000,000 dollars.
