CIVIC BAND SOCIETY

FAIRLY SUCCESSFUL YEAR The annual meeting of the Invercargill Civic Band Society was held last evening. The president, Mr J. J. Stott, presided. In presenting the annual report the chairman complimented the band on having a fairly successful year. The finance during the year was not _so satisfactory as in former years, principally because of lack of support by the public at the Sunday concerts, he said. The engagements compared favourably with those of previous years. Thanks were due to Mr 'A. R, Wills (conductor) and to the members of the band for the high standard of their performances throughout the year. The band’s instruments were now about 25 years old and during the coming year steps might have to be taken towards procuring a new set. It was decided that the band would not attend the contest at Christchurch next year, but it was stated that it expected to compete at the big contest to be held in Wellington during the centennial exhibition. The following office-bearers were elected: Patron, the Mayor, Mr J. R. Hanan; president, Mr J. J. Stott (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs J. Pickard, T. Withington (both reelected); conductor, Mr A. R. Wills; bandmaster, Mr A. M. Wills; drummajor, Mr L. Parry; drill instructor, Mr E. C. Kelly; sergeant, Mr J. Pasco; corporal, Mr J. F.
