KEEPING FIRE PLUGS CLEAR

PUBLIC ASKED TO ASSIST BRIGADE The necessity of keeping fire plugs clear of growth and obstructions was emphasized by\the superintendent of the Invercargill fire brigade, Mr F. S. Simpson, in his report to the monthly meeting of the Fire Board yesterday. “It is at this period of the year that there is usually an abnormal growth of grass and hedges which tends to hide both the plug and its indicator,” stated the report. “I would ask for the cooperation of the members of the public who are fortunate enough to have fire plugs opposite their sections or premises, in keeping all growth cut and obstructions cleared. Although the indicators may be fairly visible during daylight it is a very different matter to locate them quickly during the night.” There were present: Messrs W. G. Tait (chairman), A. Dix, R. R. Binney, A. Sharp and D. Harris.
