AUSTRALIAN WORKERS MAY BE CHECKED
NON-UNIONISTS ENGAGED FOR JOBS IN N.Z.
(Received October 28, 7.50 pan.) SYDNEY, October 28.
Officials of the building trades unions expressed doubts whether the 100 Australian building trades workers who had been engaged by the Fletcher Construction Company for work in New Zealand would be allowed by the New Zealand Government to work there.
The officials said the New Zealand Government had introduced legislation giving preference to unionists, and the information of the Australian trades union leaders was that the men engaged were not members of the building trades unions.
