ARRIVAL HERE TOMORROW To complete discharge of her Liverpool cargo the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua is to arrive here tomorrow afternoon from Dunedin. She will sail about. November 4 for northern ports to load Homeward. The motor-vessel Kekeno sailed from Bluff yesterday morning for Ruapuke Island. The Canterbury Shipping Company’s motor-vessel Breeze is to load at Wellington today for Bluff where she is due on Monday. She sails the same day for Dunedin. The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the Rangitata arrived at Ceylon' on October 27. The Ruahine sailed from Caracas Bay on the afternoon of October 26, according to advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company. The Union Company’s Kam-1 leaves Edithburg on Monday and Adelaide on November 1, completing at Melbourne for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru and Lyttelton. She is due here about November 10. The new Shaw, Savill and Albion cargo liner Walmarama left Liverpool on Monday on her maiden voyage to New Zealand. She is due at Auckland on November 24 I and at Wellington on December 1. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Kaipara left Montreal on October 21 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, and is due at Auckland on November 25. She will come by way of Sydney (C. 8. and Kingston (Jamaica). The Shaw, Savill and Albion cargo steamer Fordsdale, en route from London to New Zealand, has reported that she expects to arrive at Port Chalmers tomorrow. Hannon, well known in Australian shipping circles as an officer in P. and O. liners, has resigned from' the company’s service after sick leave. He served his time in the Australian trade aboard the full-rigged clipper Peleus, and during the war was an officer in submarines and in the armed merchant cruiser Macedonia. His last command was the P. and O. liner Naldera. > NEW P. AND O. LINER The twin-screw passenger steamer Canton, built by Alexander Stephen and Sons, Ltd., Glasgow, for the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, London, underwent her trials on the Clyde recently. Her gross tonnage is 15,700, and her normal service speed is about 20 knots. She is 562 ft in length by 73ft beam, and has accommodation for 260 first class and 220 second class passengers. She is specially designed for the Far Eastern trade, and is painted in the traditional P. and O. colours of black hull with a white line and light buff or stonecoloured upper-works. She has two pole masts and a single funnel. Her propelling machinery consists of two sets of Parsons turbines . with single-reduction gearing, aggregating 19,000 shaft horse-power. The Canton was launched on April 14 of this year and is the largest ship floated on the Clyde since the Queen Mary of three years ago. She has spacious sports decks, a large observation lounge looking forward, open and closed space for dancing, open-air swimming pool, and playground for children.
