WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
WAIMUMU The monthly meeting of the Waimumu Women’s Institute was held in the hall. Mrs G. Smith presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs McKay gave the motto for the month, and the roll call was “A bedroom hint for the sick.” Mesdames D. McGill and C. Johnston were appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly meeting of the Council of the Eastern Southland Federation. Marquetry work from disabled soldiers was on sale during the afternoon.
Mr Burrows, of Gore, gave a talk on judging flowers, members- being keenly interested in his description of prize blooms. He also judged the bloom and vegetable competitions. There was a display of spring flowers. Results of the monthly competitions were:—Shoulder spray: Mrs Forbes, bloom: Mrs D. McGill and Miss E. Parker eq, vegetable: Mesdames Parker and Coe eq., apron costing not more than 2/-: Miss A. Copland.
