NEW SEASON’S COLOURS DEMAND GOOD MAKE-UP

How to make up becomingly for the new season’s colours, and broad brimmed high hats that cast a deep shadow over the upper features, will be among the first of the beauty requirements this summer. As a general beauty maxim it may be said that white and light colours are usually becoming to the rich golden rose of a clear tanned skin.

In bright sunlight' ’ all complexion tones may be strengthened. When the darker hues of autumn and winter are being worn make-up should be lighter in tone; the typically English complexion clear and delicately tinted is an ideal. Make-up should be harmonized carefully to suit a special colour scheme in dress.

Yellow browns and mustard, “star” fashion colours, are not always easy to wear. With these, and for the new greens, especially beagle green, glade and berberis, brunettes and women with auburn hair should choose poppy lipstick and rouge, with a deep rachel powder for the brunette, and a rose rachel for women with auburn colouring. Fair-haired women should chose vivid lipstick with a medium tint of rachel powder.

Eye shadow becomes more important when wide-brimmed hats are in fashion. Subtle tints of eye shadow, azure, violet and moss green, are designed to bestow a touch of allure that may be lost otherwise under the wide brim of a dark hat. As a general rule when green is worn moss green eye shadow is suggested, violet for the sere and red browns and azure or violet when a shade of blue is chosen.

Remember that all beauty is marred when make-up is applied too heavily. Delicate and really beautiful as the colour tone of modem cosmetics can be, the hand that wields them must be light and sure. The modem test is that the complexion must be natural in tint and tone. This is not always easy to achieve, and when make-up is applied allowance must be made for the fact that a mirror reflects colour in a lower tone.

No make-up is ever successful unless the skin is kept in a healthy condition, and a simple home beauty regime is one of the most important rules in all complexion care. This should include cleansing with a liquefying cleansing cream every night after washing, toning the face and throat up with an astringent if needful, and massage with a good skin food. A little, time given to patting around the eyes which helps to ward off lines caused by eyestrain, and a stroke movement for brow massage should be included in the regime. This checks any tendency to brow lines which can spoil the look of youth.
