CHRISTMAS MAILS
DELIVERIES IN GREAT BRITAIN Although four vessels are scheduled to reach London with packets, newspapers and parcels from New Zealand before Christmas only a week remains for the posting of mail to catch the despatch recommended by the Post and Telegraph Department. This mail will be carried by the Mataroa which will leave Auckland on November 4, and will be delivered in London on December 7. The mail for this despatch will close in Invercargill on November 2.
The Rangitiki and Middlesex are due to arrive at London with New Zealand newspapers, parcels and packets on December 20 and 21 respectively, but delivery before Christmas cannot be guaranteed because the sailings may be delayed. The Invercargill mail to be despatched by these two vessels will' close on November 13 and 10 respectively.
Letters and papers will be sent by different mails this year because of the introduction of the Empire air mail service. There will be three deliveries of letter mails in England before Christmas. By the mail closing in Invercargill on November 27 letters will reach London en December 15 and by the one closing on December 4 the letters will arrive on December 19. The mail closing in Invercargill on December 6 and to be despatched from Auckland by the Westralia on December 8 is due to reach London three days before Christmas. The final opportunity for Christmas correspondence to the United States, Canada, Mexico and West Indies is by the Niagara, which will leave Auckland on November 29 and reach Vancouver on December 16. The closing date for this mail in Invercargill will be November 26.
November 9 is the closing date in Invercargill for the despatch of packets, newspapers and parcels to South Africa. The Wanganella will leave with this mail from Auckland on November 11 and is due to reach Durban on December 9. The latest closing date in Invercargill for ' letter mails reaching South Africa before Christmas is November 27.
The closing dates in Invercargill for the despatch of packets, newspapers and parcels to India-are November 23' and 27. These mails are due to read Colombo before Christmas.
