CHRISTIAN SCIENCE LEADER

LECTURE TOUR OF N.Z.

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 25. For 40 years a leader of the Christian Science Movement, Professor Hermann S. Hering, of Boston, Massachusetts, arrived, in Wellington today by the Wanganella to begin a lecture tour of the Dominion. Tall; white-haired and venerable, Professor Hering appears considerably under his age of 74. He said it was his second visit to New Zealand. He was here 24 years ago. He studied mechanics and electrical engineering in London and America and formerly held the chair of electrical engineering at Johns Hopkins University in America. He retired many years ago and has since 1905 been a lecturer in the United States, Canada and foreign countries to the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ Scientist, in Boston. Most of his time is spent in travel and lecturing. Professor Hering said the Christian Science Movement was making tremendous progress and now embraced many thousands of churches in every English-speaking country of the world. In the United States, particularly, it had a vast following. He was accompanied by his wife.
