WOMEN’S DIVISION

KELSO BRANCH The Kelso branch of the Women’s • Division of the Farmers’ Union held its : tenth birthday party in the Kelso HalL , Mrs R. Kirk and Mrs Hay sang solos, and Messrs W. Spittle, Dolamore, Reed and J. Simpson sang songs. Misses G. Sim and P. Power gave a vocal duet, and Misses Jenkins and Mr Steel a trio. Accordion items were given by Mr L. Roberts. The Irish jig and the Highland fling were danced by Miss Alma Falconer, and a muchappreciated item was the song and dance, “I Love to Whistle,” by Misses A. and J. Brooke and J. Arnold. A musical sketch, “Riding Down From Bangor,” and a playette, “The Dear Departed,” were staged. The accompanists were Mrs Brooker, Misses J. Jenkins, Power, Withers and Rees. The candles on the cake, which was made by Mrs Jenkins and iced by Miss D. Jenkins, were lighted by Mrs Arnold, president of the Tapanui branch of the Women’s Division, and Mrs .Foster, president of the Heriot Women’s Institute, and Mrs Fleming, president of the Crookston branch of the Women’s Division, extinguished the candles, and the cake was cut by Mrs W. J. McKenzie, president of the Waikoikoi branch of the Women’s Division, and the vicepresident of the Otago executive. Congratulations and best wishes to the Kelso branch were extended by the visitors, who were presented with dainty floral sprays. A dance was held to music played by Mrs Brooker, assisted by Mr L.
