MARATHON RUN AT WELLINGTON

LONG RACE IN TRYING CONDITIONS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 24. The first Wellington provincial marathon championship over 26 miles 385 yards was held today '■ in conjunction with the Labour Day sports. Nine competitors were started by the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs. The winner was R. E. McGregor (Brooklyn), who brought himself into the running for provincial honours by an effortless victory. His time was 2hr 55min 29 4-ssec. Conditions were trying, the event being run in cold weather. A. L. Stevens (Scottish) was second in 2hr 58min 30sec and G. B. Appleby (Brooklyn) third in 3hr 7min 34sec.
