LONDON, October 24.
The Daily Mail in an editorial says that completion of the proposed three American trans-Pacific liners might see the extinction of British competition unless something is done in the meantime.
“Seven years have passed since the hard-pressed British Pacific lines besought the Government to help against foreign subsidized tonnage,” says The Daily Mail. “The question of laying down two British ships, postponed because of rising costs, should be reopened immediately. “Not prestige but security demands British maritime supremacy. Here is a matter which might well be handled by the new Ministry of Merchant Shipping.
