MORE MONEY ON TOTALIZATOR
BIG INCREASE FOR WEEK-END RISE OF MORE THAN £16,000 An increase of £16,032 10/- in the totalizator investments for seven race meetings held during Labour Day week-end was recorded this year compared with 1937, the respective totals being £357,772 10/- and £341,740. The racing figures were up by £12,037 10/-, mainly as a result of the higher returns at the Wellington meeting. There was a drop of more than £3OOO at North Canterbury, but a rise of £1751 at Gore.
In the trotting section the increase was only £3994 10/- in spite of a rise of more than £lO,OOO at Auckland. Against the latter figure must be set decreases of £4928 at Greymouth and £1665 at Oamaru.
