CANDIDATE’S LEAD REDUCED

MISTAKE MADE IN BAY OF PLENTY ELECTORATE (Special to The Times) AUCKLAND, October 24. Because of a mistake at the Kaiteratahi booth, Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., the Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat, was wrongly credited with an additional 37 votes. The adjustment of this mistake has reduced his lead over the National candidate, Mr W. Sullivan, to 124. The figures now are:—Hultquist, 4632; Sullivan, 4508. It is also reported that between 50 and 100 Maoris voted. Approximately 600 postal and absentee votes have still to be counted, and the official count will not be completed for several more days, as the ballot papers from the backblock districts have been late in arriving at Opotiki. MORE OFFICIAL COUNTS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 24. More official electoral counts are:— HAWKE’S BAY E. L. CULLEN (Labour) 7572 G. A. Maddison (National) 4914 .
