MISS JEAN BATTEN’S FLIGHTS

EXPERIENCES RELATED IN LEEDS LONDON, September 29. . The 150th course of lectures at th« Leeds Institute of Science, Art and Literature was inaugurated last evening by Miss Jean Batten, the famous New Zealand airwoman, when she spoke of her flying experiences. The talk was illustrated by lantern slides. Miss Batten recalled some of her famous flights. Those which had given her most satisfaction were the one from England' to South America in 1935, and the one from England to New Zealand in 1936. Miss Batten still holds the record for the fastest flight from England to South America, namely 61J hours. Speaking of the dangers and the . loneliness of solo flying, Miss Batten emphasized the need for the maximum amount of organization. She attributed her successes to the careful thought and preparation which had preceded all her flights.
