North Canterbury J.G. Meeting ROMARIN LIKELY TO SHOW UP (Special to The Times) CHRISTCHURCH, October 23. The North Canterbury Racing Clubs annual meeting at Rangiora tomorrow will provide Canterbury racegoers with an attractive programme. The fields are all well filled and many good class horses, including candidates for some of the principal events at the New Zealand Cup meeting, will be taking part. The track promises to be fast and the single pool system of betting will be in use. The following horses are likely to be well supported:— HIGHWEIGHT HACK HANDICAP: Aggravate, Dracula. AJAX BEATS ROYAL CHIEF ELEVENTH SUCCESSIVE WIN MELBOURNE, October 23. . Ajax won the W. S. Cox Plate at the Moonee Valley races on Saturday, defeating Royal Chief by two lengths. It was Ajax’s eleventh win in succession.

Royal Chief finished brilliantly; he conceded the winner 15 lengths over the last six furlongs. He has greatly enhanced his Melbourne Cup prospects. Amigo was disappointing, but L’Aiglon made a fair effort.

Ortelle’s Star’s consistency was rewarded when she beat the fast-finish-ing Aitchengee in the Moonee Valley Cup. Queen of Song had every chance, as did her stablemate, Aranui, in the first division of the St, Albans Handicap (for colts and geldings). Aranui was never dangerous.
