Royal Chief finished brilliantly; he conceded the winner 15 lengths over the last six furlongs. He has greatly enhanced his Melbourne Cup prospects. Amigo was disappointing, but L’Aiglon made a fair effort.

Ortelle’s Star’s consistency was rewarded when she beat the fast-finish-ing Aitchengee in the Moonee Valley Cup. Queen of Song had every chance, as did her stablemate, Aranui, in the first division of the St, Albans Handicap (for colts and geldings). Aranui was never dangerous.

Top Row failed to show up in the Dundonald Handicap. Nuffield moved freely in a gallop after the races. The results included: W. S. COX PLATE, £lOOO. Nine furlongs and a-half. AJAX 9.0 (H. Badger) 1 ROYAL CHIEF 9.0 (E. Bartie) 2 YOUNG IDEA 9.4 (D. Munro) 3
