INVERCARGILL LADIES’ CLUB The monthly L.G.U. match of the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club was played at Otatara yesterday in stormy weather. Very few cards were returned. The best scores were as follows: Mrs A. Skjellerup 105-25-80 Mrs O. G. Gilmour 103-19-84 Mrs G. R. Hanan 105-18-87 Reductions in handicaps were:—Miss C. Smith, 4 to 3; Mrs P. Gresson. 25 to 22. MANAWATUCHAMPIONSHIP (United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, October 7. In the semi-finals of the Manawatu women’s .golf championship Miss Pat Helean (Hastings) beat Miss D. Todd (Masterton) 5 and 4, and Miss J. Horwell (Timaru) beat Mrs N. J. Ellison (Shandon) 4 and 3. The final was played in a gale. Tne new champion is Miss Pat Helean, who beat Miss Horwell (Timaru) at the nineteenth after a thrilling game. The finalists in the other events were: Hokawhitu Plate.—Mrs Collms (Featherston) beat Mrs Park (Hutt), 2 up. Ekstedt Cup.—Miss Kilgour-Carter (Rangitikei) beat Mrs Welton-Hogg (Wellington), 4 and 3. Manawatu Handicap.—Miss K. Garner (Manawatu) beat Miss Rutledge (Manawatu), 5 and 4.
LAWN TENNIS TEAM CHOSEN N.Z. PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN NEW SOUTH WALES (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 7. Mr H. N. Qums, secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, announced today that the following players have been selected to represent New Zealand in New South Wales, playing in that state’s championships from November 26 to December 3. and in other matches to be ararnged: A. D. Brown (Auckland), J. T. Mayson (Auckland), R. G. Pattinson (Canterbury) and J. W. Gun (Auckland). The team, which will be managed by Mr H. M. Beddington, of Masterton, will leave from Auckland by the Wanganella on November 11 and return to New Zealand early in December. It was originally intended that the team should leave New Zealand on November 1, but the date has been set back because of an alteration in the dates of the New South Wales championships.
