TERMS OF STRIKE SETTLEMENT

COAL DISPUTE IN N.S.W. SYDNEY, October 7. The terms of the agreement between the coal miners and owners, as announced by the Minister of Labour (Mr A. Mair) are:— The terms of the agreement as announced by the Minister are:— (1) The question of pensions and special compensation provisions to be dealt with by a special tribunal to be set up by the Government. Mr Mair said that he expected an early resumpiton of work. - ' It is stated on behalf of the combined mining unions, however, that the strike was not yet off but that an early resumption of work was possible provided that. the formula agreed to by Mr Mair on behalf of the New South Wales Government was implemented by other state Governments and the coal owners. ,It is reported in union circles that resumption is dependent upon the decision of the Engine Drivers’ and Firemen’s Association, the members of which occupy key positions in the mines. That union served on the owners demands even more far-reaching than those of the miners.
