WOMEN’S DIVISION The Queenstown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held an enjoyable social afternoon in the Town Hall, when Mrs J. B. Hamilton presided over about 50 members. 'Members of the Airowtown branch were also present. Items were given by the following: Mrs P. Stanton, pianoforte; Mrs Andrews, Scottish songs; Miss E. Percy, musical monologue. Two competitions arranged by Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Jago were won by Mrs Stanton and Mrs L. Veint. The prizes for these were given by Mrs Jago. Mrs Boyd’s party was the winner in the impromptu speeches. Mrs Miller, president of the Arrowtown branch, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Queenstown members for a very enjoyable afternoon. ; *
GORE MAGISTRATE’S COURT RETURNS The Gore Magistrate’s Court returns for the quarter ended September 30 disclose that 96 criminal cases were dealt with, including four charges against women and two charges heard in the children’s court Fines reached a total of £147 16/-, and costs of £39 9/-. Plaints entered for civil cases totalled 177 and the amount claimed was £9BO 3/10, the amount recovered being £969 18/10. Fourteen sittings were presided over by the Magistrate and two sittings were presided over by Justices of the Peace. ’
