RECORD PRICE FOR LINCOLN RAM
SHEEP REALIZES £434 IN THE ARGENTINE ' That Marlborough sheep breeders can hold their own with the best in the world today is evidenced by the realization for three rams recently forwarded by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company on consignment for sale in the Argentine on behalf of Mr W. M. Bishell, Caythorpe, Blenheim, and Mr J. F. Neal, Seddon. A Lincoln one-shear ram bred by Mr Bishell realized the record price for New Zealand Lincolns of £434, and another of the same age made £l4O. The former was a ram of great carriage and was covered with a dense, lustrous fleece of good quality. It was particularly well covered down the legs. Mr Bishell’s otherram, although not quite up to the first in quality, was most favourably commented upon. Mr J. F. Neal’s ram was a oneshear Corriedale, and. although rather, small was covered with very attractive fleece wool that could not but command attention. It realized £66,. which was a very satisfactoiy price. By the vessel Mahia, which sails from Wellington next month, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, is forwarding another consignment of Marlborough sheep. Mr Bishell is despatching five Lincoln rams and Mr A. H. Kennington and Mr J. F. Neal one Corriedale each. In addition, five top-quality Southdown stud ewes and one ram have been purchased from Mr R. Dysart’s wellknown stud, and five ewes of the same breed from Mr C. F. McLauchlan, Ranoch stud. The Southdowns, which have been purchased to the order of a Uruguayan client, are all one-shear sheep of the highest quality, and it is hoped will be the forerunner of further consignments.
