ARTIFICER IN LEITH ILL
ESCORT VESSEL’S DASH TO PAGO PAGO

AUCKLAND, September 12.
With an engineroom artificer, George Fryatt, dangerously ill with pneumonia, H.M.S. Leith made a 400-mile dash at full speed from near Tahiti to Pago Pago, American Samoa, during her Pacific cruise, from which she returned last night. Fryatt is still in hospital at Pago Pago. It is stated that he is convalescing. It is rumoured that the Leith will leave New Zealand for the China station in February next and will be replaced by the new escort vessel Auckland;
