Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P., who spent the week-end in Invercargill, will return to Wellington this morning. Mr Denham had intended remaining in Invercargill till tomorrow, but has been requested by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) to be in Wellington a day earlier and has had to cancel engagements made for this evening.

Mr D. J. Wesney was re-elected president of the Automobile Association (Southland) at the annual meeting of the association last evening.

Dr Stanley Brown and Mr J. A. Doig were elected the first life members of the Invercargill Cricket Club at the annual meeting of the club last evening. Several members spoke of the good service given to the club and to the game of cricket in Southland by Dr Brown and .Mr Doig.

Mr S. J. E. Closey, Dominion lecturer for the compensating price campaign, has arrived in Invercargill. He is to address meetings in the country districts of Southland.

Mr R. S. Jones, M.Sc., of the staff of the Southland Technical College, has been appointed to the Christchurch Boys’ High School and will take up his new duties towards the end of the present term. Mr Jones was a senior university scholar in chemistry and an honours graduate in the same subject from Auckland University College. While in Invercargill he has been an active member of the Invercargill Tennis Club and the Invercargilk Badminton Club.
