A story against himself and fellow bank managers was told by Mr A. H. J. Wyatt, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, in replying to the toast of the visitors at the annual meeting of the Southland Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. “A fat Englishman,” he said, “was calling on his banker, a lean Scotsman. As he wheezily levered himself into his chair he said: ‘I don’t suppose it would be any use trying to borrow £loo.’ The banker’s reply was to the point: ‘Ay, it wull. The exercise wull do you good’.”
