NAVY AND WHITE WERE POPULAR AT COWES

LONDON, August 12. Navy blue and white remained the great favourite at the Cowes yatching regatta this year. Pink was also frequently seen with navy, writes a correspondent. ■ Cowes, like Goodwood, was favoured with brilliant weather, and every day the sun shone gloriously from clear skies.

Among the wearers of navy blue were the Marchioness of Londonderry, Lady Margaret Muntz, dark-haired, slender Lady Isabel Guinness, the Duchess of Rutland’s daughter, Lady Dilke, Lady Forster and Lady Baring. Lady Cynthia Colville, a regular figure on the lawns, looked very chic in her silk suits, one of them of cream and another grey. Countess Jellicoe, who entertained a small party at St. Lawrence Hall, Ventnor, chose a pale blue dress and matching hat for a hot day. I noticed her with Lady Mottistone, who looked very cool in a pale lemon silk dress. On the same day I saw Countess Powerscourt in fawn with a scarf of red, navy and white twisted round hei’ waist instead of a belt, and the Hon Mrs Edward Pleydell-Bouverie in a white frock with a scarlet scarf and a scarlet top-coat. Few new fashions were launched among the yachtwomen but clothes kept to the formal. Neat grey flannel trousers, with matching jackets, or short pleated divided skirts were seen rather than the careless slacks and jerseys of other years. Cleverly peaked berets took the place of yachting caps. Low-backed linen frocks were popular for lazing on deck. They were worn with bolero jackets or long, gaily-coloured scarves, which were twisted round the 'neck and knotted at the back.
