WRESTLING BLOMFIELD MATCHED WITH MOEN The kind of wrestling that New Zealand followers of the sport specially delight in is the kind that has made “Lofty” Blomfield the biggest draw card in the history of the sport in this country. Consequently the biggest crowds are those which gather at Blomfield’s rhatches and when he is pitted against an opponent who wrestles after his own style it is frequently impossible to find accommodation for all the intending spectators. Such an occasion (is likely to occur in Invercargill bn Wednesday night when Blomfield will be seen in the local ring with the popular Andy Moen, of Minnesota, as his opponent. The latter is a wrestler with whom the New Zealand public has had plenty of opportunities to become acquainted since the beginning of the season and one who has passed every test. The fact that Moen is the only man who was here when operations for the year began and is still plying his wares speaks for itself. Only by consistently high-class and exhilarating performances could any wrestler, however good, retain his hold on the public for so dong, but Moen has done so well that he has become a strong rival even to Blomfield himself. Whether in victory or defeat Blomfield imparts to a contest a flavour that is all his own and his prestige this season was enhanced by the highly successful American tour which he made during the off season. He more than held his own against the best men who could be sent into the ring against him in the United States and Canada and distinguished himself particularly by becoming the first man to hold Bronko Nagurski to a draw in the latter’s term of the world champion. This year, in his own country, Blomfield has been called upon to face unusually strong opposition week after week, but, no matter whom he has been put against, he has always kept New Zealand’s colours flying high and local followers of the sport know that if Moen is to succeed on Wednesday night he will have to make an extra effort.
