ISSUE OF STAMPS FOR CENTENNIAL
DESIGNS SELECTED BY NATIONAL COMMITTEE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 29. An announcement that the New Zealand centennial celebrations in 1940 would be commemorated by the issue of a special series of postage stamps was made today by the PostmasterGeneral (the Hon. F. Jones). The stamps will range in denominations from Id to 1/-. Mr Jones said a number of prominent New Zealand artists had been invited to submit competitive drawings for designs of stamps and a special sub-committee appointed. The National Historical Committee had selected a series representing various phases of the Dominion’s industrial and historical development. The successful artists were Messrs L. C. Mitchell and J. Berry, both of Wellington.
