OBITUARY
MR JACK HIDES SYDNEY, June 20. Mr Jack Hides, the explorer and author, died after several weeks in hospital suffering from pneumonia. He was 31 years of age. Mr Hides achieved an international reputation before he was 30 for his exploratory work in Papua. The hardships endured in his vain attempt to save his friend Lyall’s life on September 16 lowered his resistance.
