THE WEATHER COLD AND CHANGEABLE

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, June 20. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-west to southerly winds. Weather cold and changeable, with passing showers and possibly some snow and hail. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable and with rain at times in most districts. Some heavy showers probable, with snow, on the ranges and on high levels in the South Island and hail in places. Temperatures cold. General Situation.—The last of the present series of westerly depressions is now crossing the Dominion and an anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is moving on to the western Tasman Sea. Winds.—Moderate to strong northwest to west at first from Canterbury northwards and south-west to southerly thence southward, southerlies extending over most of the Dominion by morning and rising in places to gale force. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough on the West Coast and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, elsewhere slight to moderate, but rough conditions extending up the east coast tomorrow; eastern Tasman Sea, strong southerly winds to gales and rough seas. At one o’clock this morning the weather was cold, but the sky was clear and the rain had ceased. The barometer readings for the last two and Saturday mornings have been as follows:— This morning (rising) 29.32 in. Monday 29.12 in. Saturday 29.46 in.
