The Hon. Adam Hamilton, Leader of the Opposition, has returned from the north. '

The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, has advised the Southland Progress League that it will not be possible for him to visit Invercargill before the session, which opens next Tuesday. The Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P. for Oamaru, arrived in Invercargill by the afternoon express yesterday to address two meetings in the city. He was the guest of Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P. He will leave by the express this morning to return to Oamaru. Mr C. S. Longuet was last evening at a meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board appointed the board’s representative on the executive of the Southland Progress League. The chairman (Mr W. A. Ott) was appointed the board’s delegate to general meetings of the league. Mr D. H. Cockburn, of Arrowtown, a new member of the Bluff Harbour Board, was last evening welcomed to his first meeting of the board by the chairman (Mr W. A. Ott). He is the representative of the boroughs of Queenstown and Arrowtown and of the Lake County. The distinction gained by Messrs V. L. George and A. W. Wesney in being selected in the New Zealand Rugby football team was referred to at the meeting of the Southland Rugby Union last night and it was decided to send letters of congratulation to them. The appointment of Mr M. J. Hickey as a member of the Southland Land Board for two years from June 2, has been gazetted. Mr E. Sinclair, of the Health Department, who has been relieving in Central Otago since March, is expected to return to Invercargill this week.
