MEETING AT GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL

; PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION FORMED Yesterday afternoon a well-attended meeting of parents of pupils of the Southland Girls’ High School was held at the school, Forth street, when it was decided to form a Parents’ Association. The aims of the association were explained by Miss Eastwood, who presided at the meeting. They were formulated as follows: To further the interests of the Southland Giris’ High School generally, and in particular to urge upon the proper

authorities when opportunity offers, the building of a new school with an extended playing area. To build up a fund for the purchase of pictures and furnishings, and so on, for the new school.

To maintain and strengthen the connection between home and school. To hold meetings of parents interested in the discussion of new problems of educational thought. OFFICERS ELECTED It was decided that the membership fee should be 2/6. Officers for the remainder of this year were elected as follows:— President, Mrs H. A. Brumby; vicepresidents, Mrs J. L. Cameron and Mrs J.- I. Robertson, hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs F. H. Pearce; executive committee, the president, vice-presi-dents, secretary and Mr and Mrs A. L. Adamson, Mr and Mrs J. R. Anderson, Mr and Mrs J. A. Cushen, Mrs T. H. Jenkin, Mr and Mrs C. P. Moore, the Rev. N. F. Sansom and Mrs Sansom and Mr and Mrs W. H. Woodward.

Several apologies and promises of help were received from parents unable to attend the meeting.

EUCHRE AND DANCE TOURNAMENT AT TARAMOA Another successful euchre tournament and dance was held in the Taramoa Hall recently. The prize-winners were Mrs T. Millar and Master F. Millar, consolation prizes going to Miss M. McEwing and Mr A. Mcßae. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr F. Smith, extras being played by Miss M. Millar and Messrs M. Anderson and J. McFadden. Mr W. Robertson was master of ceremonies.
