BLUFF BOROUGH COUNCIL

HIGHER WAGES PAID TO STAFF CO-OPERATION ASKED FROM MEN At the invitation of the Mayor (Mr John Cameron) and the councillors, the works staff of the Bluff Borough Council was present at the monthly-meeting of the council when it resumed after an adjournment of nine days. The Mayor briefly addressed the men before the start of business and explained that the council had considered the matter of wages for the staff and had decided that higher salaries be paid. In return, the men were asked to co-operate with the council in the interests of the borough. The council and the staffs were all one team, said Mr Cameron, and it was _ hoped that they would work together in harmony. A number of the councillors spoke and asked the men’s co-operation. On behalf of the works staff Mr T. Driscoll thanked the Mayor and councillors for their consideration and gave an assurance that the men would properly respond to the good treatment they had received. There were present: The Mayor (Mr John Cameron) and Crs A. E. Budd, T. F. Doyle, C. G. Pilcher, J. Ballantyne, W. P. Butler, G. T. Randall, G. Muir and O. F. Metzger. On the motion of Cr Doyle it was decided to hold meetings in future on the second Monday in the month, this being considered a more suitable day. The Mayor reported on the inspection of the borough reserves carried out by Mr B. P. Mansfield, superintendent of reserves at Invercargill, with the Reserves Committee. The visit had been very satisfactory, he said, and Mr Mansfield would submit a detailed report in the near future. DOMAIN BOARDS The annual meetings of the Omaui, Green Point and Joey’s Island Domain Boards were held in the council chambers. The Mayor (Mr John Cameron) was chairman. The annual report for each board was read by the town clerk (Mr H. A. Ferguson) and adopted. Mr Cameron was reelected chairman of'each board. PERSONAL Mr E. Earp, chief apiary instructor, of Wellington, and Mr D. Robertson, honey grader, of Dunedin, who have been visiting Bluff, have returned north.
